Point Cloud & Scientific Export — 4 New Output Formats

Added XYZ, PTS, VTK, and USDA export formats, expanding output options from 19 to 23 and enabling point cloud, scientific visualization, and USD text workflows.

We've added four new export formats that open entirely new workflows for our users:

New Export Formats

XYZ Point Cloud — Export any 3D model as a simple point cloud with optional vertex colors. The XYZ format is widely used in GIS, photogrammetry, and LiDAR processing workflows. Outputs either 3-column (x y z) or 6-column (x y z r g b) depending on whether the source model has vertex color data.

PTS (Leica Point Cloud) — Export to the PTS format used by Leica scanners and point cloud processing tools like CloudCompare. Includes the standard header line with point count, followed by 7-column data lines with position, intensity, and RGB color per vertex.

VTK Legacy ASCII — Export meshes to VTK's Legacy ASCII POLYDATA format for use with ParaView, VTK, and other scientific visualization tools. Includes both POINTS and POLYGONS sections with proper vertex indexing across multi-mesh scenes.

USDA (USD ASCII) — Export to the human-readable text variant of Universal Scene Description. USDA files are essential for debugging USD pipelines, developing Apple Vision Pro experiences, and working with NVIDIA Omniverse. Includes mesh geometry, normals, UVs, and vertex colors.

PTS Import

Along with export support, we've added PTS file import capability with a custom parser that handles the Leica point cloud format natively, including automatic detection of color data columns.

By the Numbers

  • Export formats: 19 → 23
  • Import formats: 69 → 70 (PTS added)
  • Total conversion pairs: ~1,300 → 1,600+
  • Custom exporters: 12 → 16
